2026 Mushroom Wonderland Update
Hey everybody it's been awhile since I updated this site, I hope you're all having a good 2026. Mine started out really good due to a very mild winter there have been mushrooms everywhere all year. In January I took a trip to Kauai to join the biodiversity collective fungal biodiversity survey. It was a really amazing trip. About 15 of us stayed at the CCC camp and kokee State Park above waimea canyon. We roamed the woods for about 4 days collecting fungal specimens and having them sequenced by Harte Singer. I still have some videos in the works from that trip that should be released soon.
In February I got to go to the Big Island to visit family and got to forage and explore some of the forests there, quite the contrast from kauai. Quite a few different mushrooms, some of them overlapped with what I saw in Kauai, some of them were completely unfamiliar to me. Even with it being the rainiest part of the island in rainy season I didn't see an incredibly large amount of mushrooms but it was probably because I was focused on family and didn't have a lot of time to get down into the bushes and start looking for the tiny things we were finding in kauai.
Spring was great, I held 4 mushroom Wonderland foray workshops and had about 60 people in attendance. Mushrooms were a little bit scarce but we managed to stay entertained and find plenty of fungi along the way, a couple of them we even put together oyster mushroom kits with varied results. We also ate really yummy morels and had a great time.
This summer has been good, I hope you've been watching the YouTube channel to stay updated on all the different mushroom videos I've put out. I've done a few trips out of town, some backpacking, and so much coming up. In August I will be spending some time on the Washington coast at the ocean looking at some of the great summer mushrooms that come up there. Then I will be heading to Minnesota to forage and make videos, then on to Wisconsin and Michigan to the nama foray in Marquette Michigan. An unbelievable amount of content will come out of there. And then on to the fungi festivals throughout September and october. I'm working on nailing down some dates right now for more mushroom Wonderland forays this fall at Pilgrim first, the private retreat where I hold my workshops. There will also be class is available at Olympic college this fall, also working out the details of those and I will be publishing them here soon.
